A Typical Day In Murano

There are two sides to Italy. One side the tourists see and the real Italy. The same thing applies to Murano. Murano is an island that you can only reach via boat from Venice.
It’s been years now, that I know a different Murano due to my interest and profession.
There is a side to Murano that only tourists see while Murano has been the glass art capital of the world for centuries. For centuries the masters of this art have been standing in front of hot furnaces working their magic on the glass. I truly hope that anyone who visits Murano has a chance to see and experience these stunning places.
What upsets me is when I notice tourists purchasing these glass ware without knowing the work that has been put into creating each and every one of them, some of which are prototypes mostly coming from China.
Finding a glass master at work is not a very easy thing to find, as this art has become a kind of family inheritance. It is taught by the elders of the family to the youth.
But seeing a master at work is a magical experience like no other. The melted glass is so smoothly shaped and sculpted by these masters it almost seems like they’re dancing.
I like seeing the small innate details around these workshops such as the colored broken glass, or pieces that went wrong. I find the wonky glassware such as cups, vases, fruit and animals very interesting.
All the glassware available at our Gallery have been selected with knowledge about the process and the effort put into each item. They are all certified and authenticated by the artists themselves.
