Born in 1900, he was known for his designs in glass. He began his work at Murano’s glass kilns in the 1920s. His fame followed his ‘submerged glass’ (vetro sommerso) technique where he used several transparent layers of glass one over the other in 1934. His most revered designs are his vases, some of which are on display at the Murano Glass Museum, MoMA New York among others.
